Ekiti First Lady Helps Young Girl Suffering from Brain Tumour Regain Her Sight

The first Lady of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, has expressed that her joy concerning the case of a 13-year old girl, Precious Sodeinde, who suffered from brain tumour was that the young girl was able to regain her sight after she went through a successful surgery at Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

Precious, who is an SSII student at Greater Tomorrow Model College, Ado Ekiti, had been confirmed by Doctors to have gone partially blind before her case was brought to Mrs Fayemi.

Worried by the situation, the First Lady arranged that the girl be taken to Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, where medical experts removed the tumour through an operation and rescued the girl from vision impairment.

Speaking at her office in Ado Ekiti on Monday, while playing host to the family of Miss Precious Sodeinde, Mrs Fayemi said her utmost joy was that the girl’s vision has been restored, saying that it is very important to rally round citizens in their hours of need.

“I am pleased that the operation was successful. At times, you will spend money on a sickness, it will be to no avail. Based on information I heard, the experts before the operation on Precious were sure of successful surgery, but were not really sure of her regaining her sight or seeing again. But today, the young girl can see perfectly, because the Doctors did a great job and am so happy about that.”

“I specially thank the experts at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital for doing a great job. They have shown expertise and conviction that Ekiti can be a destination for good healthcare delivery in Nigeria .

Mrs Fayemi however appealed to those tagging her on social media to attend to their situations to stop forth with. “Let me appeal to our people to feel free to write to my office while in distress, or at least get across to any of my aides who can get their cases across to me rather than going on social media to tag me. They can also write to the appropriate quarters like the Ministry of Health and they can be rest assured that their requests will be attended to.”

The mother of the girl, Mrs Jumoke Sodeinde, appreciated the First Lady for the gesture, saying her prompt intervention rescued Precious from total blindness.

“I thank the First Lady for this show of love . We thank God that prompt action by Her First Lady gave Precious a second chance to see again. Before the operation, she could not see anything, but she can see clearly now.”
